It's better to be well respected because sure, if you're wealthy you can fufill your wants and desires, but to receive respect, you must give it first, therefore, if you had to chose between respected, or wealth, your wealth is clearly getting in the way of being respected. And sure, you could pay people to respect you, but they'd respect you for your money, not who you are. They would only respect you because you're paying them to do so.
