Diablo 2 Resurrected was criticized for its ridiculous microtransactions

"Just because it's on a small device or screen doesn't necessarily mean it's a tiny undertaking," Cheng said, adding that it's the studio's most ambitious Diablo project yet.Unfortunately, for Diablo 2 Resurrected, the mobile spin-off Diablo 2 Resurrected spoiled that momentum. From the moment of announcement, development until the launch as well as afterward, Diablo 2 Resurrected was criticized for its ridiculous microtransactions, causing the community to revolt. The same community that forced Blizzard from their D2R Items auction house that was based on real money the same group which demanded the redesigned loot system, Loot2.0 which has made Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls the first action loot title of the time.

The players felt and, in a variety of ways, feel, left by Blizzard. Diablo 2 Resurrected could begin to right the wrongs. Blizzard is a corporation in changing. In the midst of the impending Microsoft merger, Diablo 2 Resurrected could prove to be the final game made by the "Old Blizzard," and there's pressure to deliver the experience they want, especially since it's been a while since Diablo 3, other games that are in the same genre, like Path of Exile, have threatened Blizzard's looted title.

There's a central loop in Diablo that's at the heart of making the game work or disappointing. Is it satisfying to step into the dungeon, savagely take out mobs and collect loot? If yes you then Diablo 2 Resurrected is halfway to being loved by its fan base. If the team once mismanaged the loot system in the same way as they did in the original release of Diablo 3, then we're in trouble.

The book Blood, Sweat, and Pixels in the book Blood, Sweat, and Pixels, the chapter on the disaster that occurred during Diablo 3's launch tells the way a Blizzard producer played through the game literally hundreds of hours until they found one piece of legendary loot. When the light that was orange finally came out of an opponent, he walked towards the loot only to realize that his class could not even access it. The system of loot was so fundamentally broken that the tension that comes from grinding all day and then the satisfaction of actually getting something special, was broken.

It was finally fixed to the point where you were able to only find certain tiers of loot which would fit your character, and the rate at that early-game legendary items were dropped was higher. Even though the legendary items you'd be getting did not break the game but you did occasionally experience a tiny dose of dopamine, which kept you on the hook.

When Diablo 2 Resurrected gets that right and implements a similar system similar to Loot2.0 and Loot2.0 in Diablo 3, then we're already worried about just how long we'll be able to invest in the game. The Diablo 3 disaster is the best possible thing to happen to the franchise on an ongoing basis. Add it with that with the Immortal controversy, it seems like Blizzard has a fairly simple path to avoid to keep it in the good books of its the most faithful players.

The Diablo 3 community has been vocal about what they don't like and has been through the lifespan of Diablo 3, so we're hoping Blizzard is taking that on board from those who were able to buy D2R Items Gold play huge parts of the game in the pre-release phase. We'd like to bet Blizzard isn't happy with the massive leaks of footage that has been surfacing in the wake of the private test.
